In the short story, “The Wall of China” by William Saroyan, a Chinese man living in America has a hard time fitting in with the American culture. His family has been in America for a while but he feels very much out of place. When Mr. Lee’s neighbor comes over for dinner, Mrs.

Lee makes a cake and tells her to take some for her family back home. The neighbor is pleased but the Chinese man feels bad that she has so many children to feed. He can’t understand why he needs so much room because he is not a very big person to begin with.
